Philadelphia is one of the oldest cities in America and home to many historical landmarks. Here are some of the things you can see while exploring the city.
Independence National Historical Park – Located just outside Philadelphia, Independence National Historical Park preserves the site of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. You can tour the buildings where it happened, including the Pennsylvania State House, which now serves as the US Capitol building.
The Betsy Ross House – This house in Philadelphia served as the headquarters of the American flag design committee during the Revolutionary War. Today, it houses a museum dedicated to the story of the creation of the American flag.
Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts – Founded in 1805, PAFA is the second oldest art academy in the United States. Its collection contains paintings by European masters such as Rembrandt, Rubens, Van Dyck and Gainsborough.
National Museum of American Jewish History – Established in 1976, the National Museum of American Jewish History tells the stories of Jews in the United States. Exhibits include items like the Star of David, a Torah scroll and a menorah.
Franklin Institute Science Museum – A science museum located inside Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the Franklin Institute features interactive exhibits about physics, chemistry, biology and astronomy. Visitors can learn how electricity works, explore the human body and even try out different jobs.
