Valley Church

In the business's own words

Valley Church is based in West Des Moines, Iowa. We major on the majors, focusing on what Christians have believed and taught for over two thousand years. And Jesus made it simple: Love God and love your neighbors. We want to be the heart, the hands, and the feet of Jesus to the people of greater Des Moines. We seek to do good for the community, with the community. Whatever your background, whether faith is new to you or familiar, you'll find a warm, grounded community here. We help relationships thrive through Life Groups, marriage and parenting support, and genuine friendships. We're bridge builders, not wall builders, pursuing boundless generosity and loving our neighbors well. Nine services weekly, incl. the 8:15am liturgy at Sky Venue.

Valley Church and its work in the community

Valley Church is best known for how much it does for its neighbors. Reviewers most often mention its community outreach, its family events and a staff they find warm and welcoming. Many also praise the preaching and the focus on Scripture.

The church describes its purpose simply: love God and love your neighbors. Its tagline is For God and Neighbor. The Valley Community Center, across the street from the church, is where much of that work happens.

The church reports more than 200,000 guests a year at the center. People come for coffee, a kids' play area, and sports and wellness classes. Valley says it began in 1990, when 40 people met in a public school gym. It holds a 4.7 rating from 103 Google reviews.

Nine weekly services across several venues

The church lists nine worship services each weekend, in person or online, in English or Spanish. The auditorium hosts contemporary services with a full band at 8:15, 9:30 and 11 am on Sundays. The chapel holds a traditional 9:30 service built around hymns and praise songs.

The Cafe at the community center offers a smaller acoustic setting. Sunday breakfast starts at 7:45 am, and lunch follows the 11 am service. Families can use the West Venue, where the service is streamed close to the auditorium.

Beyond Sunday, Valley names marriage and parenting support, Life Groups and help building friendships. Its doors are open weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm, with Saturday evening and Sunday morning hours.

West Des Moines had 74,224 residents in 2025, per the Census Bureau, and sits in Polk County. The town averages 37.2 inches of precipitation and 33.1 inches of snow a year, per NOAA normals for 1991 to 2020.

The newest option is the Sky Venue liturgy at 8:15 on Sunday mornings. It is a quieter service shaped by historic liturgy, with communion offered every week.
